General Description of the RISE & Shine Legal Retreats

The RISE & Shine Special Education Legal Retreats are designed for Special Education Directors and their Assistants and are held at locations that are intended to facilitate a laid-back and relaxed atmosphere, while allowing for an extensive amount of input from and collaboration between attendees.  The Retreat is typically held for one and 1/2 days, beginning on an afternoon and concluding in the afternoon the following day.  The first RISE & Shine Retreat was held in Alabama at Cheaha State Park in Delta, Alabama in January 2012 and the second, third, fourth and fifth were held at Alabama's 4-H Center in Columbiana, Alabama.

The Retreats have been enjoyable learning experiences for everyone who attended.  The Retreat tuition includes all Retreat activities and materials prepared by Julie, Leslie and Kevin, all meals/snacks and one night's lodging at the Retreat site.

This Retreat is not intended to be a "conference" or typical " legal presentation."  Rather, it is designed to be a working Retreat where Directors and their assistants are able to share information and engage in hands-on problem-solving and strategy development for dealing with difficult special education legal issues and situations.  Because of the nature of this Retreat, registration is limited to 50 people on a first-come, first-serve basis.
