LEArn & LEAd's trainings are offered in-person typically,
but can be provided virtually upon request.
Across the country, many local school principals and/or their appropriate administrative designees serve as LEA Representatives at IEP meetings. That being the case, Julie Weatherly recognized a need to provide training to all who serve as "LEA Reps" that would focus not only on the legal aspects of FAPE and IEP meeting process concerns but also on the process of conducting and leading IEP meetings in a way that will make them more efficient, organized, and legally compliant.
In 2014, Julie joined with Dr. Timothy S. Havard of Havard Educational Consulting and recently-retired Director of Student Services for Auburn City Schools to create the LEArn & LEAd training program for school administrators and others serving the role of LEA Representative. This jam-packed one-day program provides legal and practical information and resources to support IEP meeting "process leadership skills" so that the "content experts" at IEP meetings can focus appropriately on IEP content. Pre- and Post-survey data provided by hundreds of trainees reflect a significant increase in knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective IEP Team process leader.
At the request of LEA Rep trainees, we have also developed a LEArn & LEAd session for special education teachers/case managers that focuses on IEP content legal considerations as well as process leadership considerations.
